Error "...processor does not support the SSE instruction set" occurs during startup (Adobe Premiere Pro)
Issue
When you try to start Adobe Premiere Pro, it returns one of the following errors:
-- "Adobe Premiere Pro cannot run on this computer because the processor does not support the SSE instruction set."
-- "The application failed to initialize properly (0xc000001d). Click on OK to terminate the application."
Solutions
Do one or more of the following solutions:
Solution 1: Check the system requirements.
Make sure that you install Adobe Premiere Pro on a computer that meets the minimum system requirements (that is, an Intel Pentium III 800 MHz or later processor). For a complete list of system requirements, see document 329132 : "Troubleshoot installation and startup issues (Adobe Premiere Pro 1.x)."
Solution 2: Update the BIOS.
If an updated BIOS with SSE (Streaming SIMD Extensions) support is available from the motherboard manufacturer's website, download and install it.
Solution 3: Enable SSE.
If your processor supports SSE, make sure it is enabled.
To enable SSE, do one or both of the following tasks:
-- Download and install the latest BIOS for the motherboard.
-- Download WCPUID, a freeware utility that displays information about your computer's CPU, from
http://hp.vector.co.jp/authors/VA002374/src/download.html . Follow the on-screen instructions to install and run it. If WCPUID indicates that your processor supports SSE, choose Tweaks > AMD Athlon MP/4 SSE Control > SSE Enable to enable SSE. Note: Using WCPUID to enable SSE requires you to reenable SSE each time you restart the computer.
Background information
Adobe Premiere Pro requires the SSE instruction set for real-time previews. The SSE instruction set is included with Intel Pentium III and later processors, and with AMD Athlon XP and later processors. If the SSE instruction set is not available or isn't enabled on the system, Premiere Pro returns one of the above errors.
