Video in the capture or preview window is black and white in Studio PCTV
Answer
1. THE SATURATION SETTING IS SET TO ZERO (or nearly zero). Run Studio and go to the capture tab. In the Disk O Meter window, click on the left tab which has an icon of a TV screen on it (this will open up the Video Control Panel). Check to make sure the far right slider, Color Saturation, with the red icon over top of the slider is set near the middle.
2. DAMAGED S-VIDEO CABLE. This solution only applies if S-video cables are being used. If you have tried Solutions #1 above and the video in the preview window is still in black and white, replace the S-Video cable that connects your video source to the back of the Studio PCTV.
3. USING THE INCORRECT VIDEO STANDARD. If you use PAL equipment, make sure the source setting is set to PAL and if you are using NTSC equipment, make sure the source setting is NTSC. Choosing the wrong video standard for your equipment will cause a black and white image in the preview window (which is also what will be captured). To check this setting, open Studio. Then click on the setup pulldown menu and select capture. When the capture setting window appears, find the box marked TV Standard. This setting has to match your TV standard for your equipment.
NOTE: North America is NTSC and most of Europe is PAL
Black and white video output with the DV500.
Solution:
If you are using s-video as your output, please try using another s-video cable. It is fairly common for a s-video cable to have a short in the cable carrying the chroma (color) signal. If another s-video cable yields the same problem or if you are having the same problem when sending video out through a connection other than s-video, please try the following to correct the problem:
1. Launch Premiere.
2. Load one of the DV500 presets in Premiere.
3. Open the Movie Capture window File – Capture – Movie Capture.
4. Open up the Capture Settings dialog box Project – Settings – Capture Settings.
5. Click on the "Settings" button in this dialog box.
6. Choose the "Video Format" tab.
7. Choose PAL as the format then change this back to NTSC.
If you are using a Y/C to SCART (PERITEL) adapter, please check that your video device (VCR, TV) is really compatible with Y/C signal, the Y/C connection might not be present on the SCART connector.
